DC Unveils ‘Blue Beetle’ In First Trailer

Today, DC gave fans what they’ve been waiting for with the first trailer for the upcoming Blue Beetle film. The film will be the first Latino-led superhero movie, starring big names such as Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai), George Lopez (George Lopez), and Bruna Marquezine (God Save The King).

Following Shazam Fury of the Gods and The Flash, it will act as the third of four movies DC has set to release this year before Gunn and Safran’s DCU reboot.

Blue Beetle follows the story of Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) after he comes into possession of an alien scarab that enables him with superpowers. Once attached to Reyes, the scarab fuses with his body giving Reyes a built-in super suit, plus the ability to fly and transform his body into whatever weapons his mind can imagine. These abilities come with a cost, as he is no longer fully in control of his body.

The scarab itself is actually a “world-ending device” that has a mind of its own, leading to a symbiotic relationship between the two. With the help of his family, it is up to Reyes to figure out the secrets of the scarab and keep it from falling into the hands of Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon).

Blue Beetle blasts its way into theaters on August 18th, 2023.
