Destin Daniel Cretton Has A 'Hawaii Five-O' Movie In The Works

Hawaii Five-0 is potentially making a return, but not in the way you expect. According to Deadline, the Hawai’i-based procedural cop series may be coming to the silver screen with Destin Daniel Cretton as the director. Noah Oppenheim and Chris Bremner are currently attached as scriptwriters, while Guyman Casady of Entertainment 360 will produce. Casady, in collaboration with the estate of series creator Leonard Freeman, reportedly crafted the pitch, bringing it to Paramount; as the Five-0 title is a shared property between the Freeman Estate and CBS, parent company Paramount has some input on the matter. As the project is in very early stages and Paramount has yet to greenlight it, there is little to no news surrounding the plot or cast.
The original Hawaii Five-O aired for 12 seasons from 1968 to 1980. The procedural cop show followed the fictional 5-O task force in Hawai’i, an elite team composed of Detective Danny ‘Danno’ Williams, Kono Kalakaua, Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, and Navy Lieutenant Steve McGarrett, with others added as the show progressed. Together they handled some of the most dangerous cases on the island, from organized crime to international spies and more. Most episodes were well-known for ending with a variation of McGarrett's iconic line, “Book 'em, Danno.” The 2010 reboot, which utilized a 0 instead of an O in the title, was similar while bringing a modern cop show lens to the table. Both iterations are available to stream on Paramount+.
