Disney And Epic Games Announce A 'Star Wars' Theme Park Ride In Fortnite

Bringing beloved real-world experiences into the digital world of video games not only broadens reach but also enables that audience to connect with brands synonymous with fun and joy. Brands such as Disney and Epic Games have demographics that include children and young adults. To further expand upon this, both brands collaborated and are expected to debut “an unprecedented new effort that will connect one of Disney’s real-life theme park rides with a bespoke adventure in Fortnite.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fortnite unveiled a new mission titled Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite. This new mission “enables” visitors to the Smuggler’s Run attraction at the Disney theme parks in Orlando and Anaheim to accept “a special mission” while in the queue for the ride. After succeeding, the player will earn a “unique Forsworn Trooper Outfit” in a newly created Fortnite adventure, Smugglers Gambit, set in the same universe.

According to Sean Shoptaw, executive VP of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run mission is an “immersive, high-quality game, and together these experiences reflect our ambition to connect stories and worlds across formats into one converged entertainment ecosystem” created by a “strong and talented” team. The team took inspiration from the Disney Park’s Smuggler’s Run ride to re-create Han Solo’s famous spacecraft and its cockpit’s technology courtesy of Epic’s Unreal Engine. Epic Games’ president, Adam Sussman, calls this collaboration “only the beginning” of the possibilities of “the future of interactive entertainment”. Fans of Disney and Fortnite have plenty to be excited about thanks to “world-class” storytellers and artists.
