With three weeks before the series premiere of Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord, a new trailer has been released to YouTube alongside a news article on StarWars.com.
The new trailer is a visceral, thriller/horror-infused action-packed look at the series, and highlights that Shadow Lord is presenting itself as a product meant for an older audience. Maul is in peak brutal form, handing out savage massacres to dozens, be they droids or organics, while others struggle in their encounters with him.
Firstly there is the local law enforcement, the face of the efforts against Maul being Captain Brander Lawson, voiced by recent Emmy-winner and Oscar nominee Wagner Moura. Then, there are the Jedi, seen through actress Gideon Adlon’s Devon Izara, but also a surviving Master, Master Eeko-Dio Daki, voiced by Dennis Haysbert. The Master has some words of warning about Maul in the trailer, after Devon delivers a message from the ex-Sith: “The Empire may be our enemy, but Maul will never be our ally.”
Yet it appears Devon is on a crash course for greater associations with Maul. Not only do we see her and Maul fighting together against the Inquisitor called Marrok (you may remember him from his mysterious appearance in Ahsoka), but Maul speaks about a “weapon” required for his revenge, as the trailer fades into shots of Devon desperately fighting the Empire.
Accompanying the new trailer was an article on StarWars.com summarizing and expanding on previous story and character information, with a new poster also included. Focusing on the “heroes” of our story, in the form of Maul’s criminal associates alongside the Jedi, Captain Lawson, his droid companion Two-Boots, and his son, Rylee, are also seen on the poster as a trio separated from the rest of the main cast by Maul’s fierce expression and lightsaber.
Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord starts airing at midnight PDT April 6th/3am EDT April 7th in two-episode pairings, with the final set of episodes releasing on May the 4th/5th.
