In just the second year of the award’s existence, Dragon Ball DAIMA has won the Best Anime Series at the Astra TV Awards. The awards, held annually since 2021, have given awards to several well-known and prestigious television shows. Other shows were also up for the award, these were DAN DA DAN, Fire Force (Season 3), Lazarus, Solo Leveling (Season 2), and The Apothecary Diaries (Season 2). Stephanie Ndaolny was also nominated for Voice-Over Performance for her performance as Goku, though she ultimately lost out to Jack Quaid as Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Dragon Ball DAIMA is the latest incarnation of the Dragon Ball franchise, airing from October 11 to February 28. Taking place a year after Dragon Ball Z, the story focuses on Goku and his friends being aged down into children by the new villain, and being aided by new allies. Akira Toriyama wrote the story and provided designs, which turned out to be his final project after his passing. The usual creators, namely Toei Animation and Crunchyroll (formerly Funimation), were back to produce the series. Despite only lasting 20 episodes, Dragon Ball DAIMA quickly left an impact on viewers and is sure to be unforgettable. There’s no telling what lies next for Dragon Ball.
