Famed Director Rob Reiner Dead At 78

Famed actor/director Rob Reiner has died at the age of 78.

 The This is Spinal Tap director and his 68-year-old wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, reportedly by their daughter Romy Reiner. Initially described as a medical aid call, emergency services discovered the Reiners’ bodies with wounds indicating that a violent incident had taken place, resulting in their deaths. Once on the scene, authorities were quickly informed by Romy Reiner of a potential suspect; the Reiners’ son, Nick Reiner, was arrested later that afternoon.

The son of acting legends Estelle and Carl Reiner, Rob got  his start by playing the role of Archie Bunker’s son-in-law on the sitcom All In The Family. Soon afterwards, he pivoted to directing, with his first directing credit being This Is Spinal Tap. He spent the rest of his life creating films that were a seminal point of many a millennial and Gen X childhood, such as Stand By Me and The Princess Bride. His 22 total directing credits also included hits like When Harry Met Sally…, The American President, and a sequel to Spinal Tap titled This Is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. He also wrote and acted extensively for television.

Reiner is survived by his children Tracy, Jake, and Romy, his sister, Annie Reiner, and his brother, Lucas Reiner.
