So much has been happening, it’s been overwhelming. Some great things, exciting things. Dreams coming true. But there have been nightmares too.” The post continued, “I have lost friends. Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun. But there have been amazing times as well.”

In addition to this personal note, Martin took a moment to offer his kudos to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which has been nominated for nine Emmys, including Best Drama. Martin is hoping to attend the Emmy awards show at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on September 14, but his health, age, and writing deadlines may interfere with his plans. Martin expressed disappointment that Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell were not nominated for playing the main duo of Dunk and Egg. Martin wrote, “I am proud of our team, and hope we take home a few of the statues, but I will confess that I was hoping we’d get a few of the acting nominations as well. But there’s always next year.” A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a yearly show, so fans can count on seeing that era of Westeros frequently.
