Another Dub Of 'Star Wars: A New Hope' Is Coming But This Time In Welsh

Star Wars (as in Episode IV: A New Hope) is getting another dub. This time, it’s in the Welsh language, Cymraeg. Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd will air on S4C on Christmas Day of this year, ahead of the film’s 50th birthday. The film includes an all-star cast of Welsh actors, including Osian Morgan as Luke, Matthew Rhys as Han Solo, Rhys Ifans as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Princess Leia, and Mark Lewis, who had previously played Captain Canady in The Last Jedi, as Darth Vader. Ellyn Stern is directing, while Michael Kohn is producing.
Lucasfilm Co-President Lynwen Brennan, herself a native Welshwoman, has said of the dub, “Wales has such a rich history of storytelling and a beautiful lyrical language. We have never before had a translation of Star Wars into Welsh, and I am so thankful that in celebration of our 50th anniversary, we have been able to work with some incredible Welsh talent to make that a reality. Welsh speakers will finally be able to enjoy the film in our native language, and my hope is that it will have the same emotional impact as if you were watching the film again for the first time.” Personally, we’d like to see an Irish dub next, but for now, we’ll be in the Unknown Regions of the Internet.
