Godzilla Takes On The Classics In Monsterpiece Theatre (No Cookie Monster Here!)

Godzilla is returning to a unique place with the new limited series: Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents. This project follows Tom Scioli’s Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre miniseries from IDW, which brought Godzilla into conflict with several public domain characters such as The Great Gatsby, Dracula, and the Time Machinist. The core idea was that “Godzilla has been with us for centuries, maybe millennia, hiding in the fringes of history and literature,” in Scoili’s own words. This concept will be expanded upon by this new miniseries, the first issue of which is planned for an April 8 release this year.
The first issue, Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, takes on the famous Shakespearean tragedy, with Godzilla attacking fair Verona. Adam Tierney is writing with Sean Peacock on art duties. Included is a backup story, Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham, that places him in Sherwood Forest. Tierney said of the project, “Tom Scioli has invented such a unique take on Godzilla. It’s an honor to play in that sandbox and also reimagine one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.” He also confirms that the story will be written in iambic pentameter, a first for IDW. We’ll provide more information about this project as it becomes available.
