'Harry Potter' TV Adaptation Coming To Max In 2026

There’s finally a release timetable for the long-awaited Harry Potter TV Series. On a recent financial call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that the wizard will be getting his wand out in 2026. The project was announced back in April 2023 at a Max streaming event, but rumors have been circulating about a reboot since 2021.

It’s been a long wait for fans who have been assured that this will be a faithful adaption of the books by Max Chairman, Casey Bloys.

‘This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years’ (Bloys)

The controversial author J.K. Rowling recently has met with executives at Warner Bros including Zaslav, according to his latest financial call, and it sounds like real progress is being made.

“We spent some real time with J.K. and her team […]. Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.” (Zaslav)

There are reports that Francesca Gardiner (Succession) Martha Hillier (The Last Kingdom) Kathleen Jordan (Teenage Bounty Hunters) and Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) are all in contention to pen the script. So far, there are no clues about who will play ‘the boy who lived’ or who will direct the series, but there are sure to be more announcements in the coming months.
