‘Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping’ Signs Up Glenn Close And Billy Porter

At CineEurope, Lionsgate announced additions to the cast for the upcoming Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping. Glenn Close will portray Drusilla Sickle, a cruel woman who escorts the District 12 Tributes. Billy Porter will play the role of her estranged husband, Magno Stift, the designer for the Tributes. Producer Nina Jacobson had plenty of praise for both actors. She said, “Glenn Close is a dream Drusilla. She brings so much of her intellect and imagination to each role, creating characters who are unforgettable and iconic. I think Glenn and Francis [Lawerence] will have a ball bringing Drusilla from the page to the screen.” It’s clear Jaconson has plenty of faith in Close to carry the role.”
She also shared some praise for Porter, “Billy is one of those rare performers who can dazzle and devastate in equal measure on stage and screen. He made an indelible impression on me when we worked together on Pose, both as an actor and a human being. Casting this show has felt like winning the lottery every time one of our idols said yes to us. To be able to announce Glenn Close and Billy Porter together is an embarrassment of riches that we can all celebrate.”

Sunrise on the Reaping is a prequel set twenty-four years before the events of the original film and will feature the 50th Hunger Games. Previously announced cast members include Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning and Kieran Culkin. Zada will play the role of Haymitch Abernathy. Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping lands in theaters on November 20, 2026.
