One of the most unique cinematic voices of our time has returned for a new feature film! The teaser poster and trailer for the upcoming sci-fi comedy I Love Boosters have been released.
Centered on a woman named Corvette, she and a group of women, known as the Velvet Gang, target a major fashion mogul and steal her works to sell them at a discounted price for marginalized communities. While the trailer doesn’t showcase much of the main story, the film promises to be another “wildly original and boundary-pushing vision that’s deliciously unpredictable,” according to South by Southwest VP Claudette Godfrey. The film is set to debut at South by Southwest on March 12th before its theatrical release on May 22nd.
I Love Boosters is the sophomore feature film from filmmaker, rapper, teacher, and activist Boots Riley. Riley began his career as part of the rap group, The Coup, in 1991. Known for their politically charged, provocative, and brutally honest lyricism, The Coup enjoyed consistent critical acclaim and moderate commercial success. Riley would eventually make his feature directorial debut with Sorry to Bother You in 2018, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, and Steven Yeun. Carrying the same left-leaning politics and provocative nature of his music, the film received universal critical acclaim for Riley’s direction and screenplay, the performances, and its originality. Since its release, Sorry to Bother You has been hailed by critics and cinephiles as one of the greatest comedy films of the 2010s.
