1987 saw the release of Spaceballs, a parody film riffing on the likes of Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Among the cast was Bill Pullman, portraying the Han Solo-esque character of Lone Starr. Pullman will reprise that role of Lone Starr in the Spaceballs sequel, with it now known that Pullman’s son Lewis is in talks to star in that sequel.
Pullman’s son began his acting career a decade ago alongside his father in the western The Ballad of Lefty Brown. Between then and now, Lewis Pullman has starred in many popular films such as Top Gun: Maverick and Marvel Studios’ The Thunderbolts*. Father and son reuniting on screen will be a great moment. Especially as it seems that dynamic will be reflected in the Spaceballs sequel.
According to sources of The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis Pullman will portray the son of Lone Starr, named Starburst. A casting that would not be happening had Pullman not changed his stance on combining personal relationships with his acting career. In an interview with THR, he revealed, “For a long time, I was like, ‘I’m gonna do this on my own’ and was very stubborn, and I’m so glad that I got over whatever that was because now it’s such a gift to be able to share different experiences with my dad and get advice from him.”
The Spaceballs sequel, which recently had a teaser trailer released, will see a release by Amazon MGM Studios in 2027. Josh Greenbaum will direct, with the script written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, and Keke Palmer will star alongside the Pullmans, with Rick Moranis and Daphne Zuniga expected to reprise their roles.
