On Thursday, June 12, Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy attended the screening of the original 1977 release print of Star Wars at the British Film Institute in London. But to give this very rare and special presentation additional gravitas wasn't the only reason for her being in England.
During the introduction interview for the film, Kennedy confirmed that the next but one Star Wars film, Starfighter, will begin shooting in September in England and that they are currently putting the cast together.
Star Wars Starfighter was announced as a surprise during the Mandalorian and Grogu panel at Star Wars Celebration in Japan in April. Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper, the film is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker but is unrelated to the main saga. Ryan Gosling will play the male lead, but no other cast members have been confirmed yet.

This year's Oscar winner for best female lead, Mikey Madison, has reportedly been offered the role of the main antagonist of the film but has turned down the proposal for reasons unknown.
Other actors, rumored to have been approached to play a role in Starfighter are Dacre Montgomery who is probably best known for his role as Billy Hargrove in Netflix's Stranger Things, and Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac, A Cure for Wellness), who could end up taking the role of the main villain that was originally intended for Madison.
With the start of shooting getting closer, Lucasfilm will surely announce further cast members in the coming weeks and months.
Star Wars Starfighter will premiere on May 28, 2027.
