A major player in a galaxy far, far away just revealed his part in another beloved franchise.  Joonas Suotamo, the actor known for portraying the lovable Wookie Chewbacca revealed in an interview with Lucasfilm that he will be making a cameo as the Scourge in the Disney+ series Willow

Suotamo, actor and former professional basketball player took up the mantle as Chewy in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and standalone film Solo: A Star Wars Story.  It was during his work on Solo that he met co-writer Jon Kasdan, who is acting as showrunner for Willow. Kasdan reached out to Suotamo during production for Willow, in need of a “beastly, muscular” actor to play the formidable Scourge.

On playing a character so unlike the cuddly Wookiee, Suotamo said, “It was new territory for me.  I’d grown accustomed to playing these lovable moments, and all of a sudden, that’s not my job at all.”

The difference was most evident when Erin Kellyman, Suotamo’s co-star on both Solo and Willow, suggested that they recreate an adorable shot of her character receiving a piggyback ride from Chewbacca.  Suotamo recalls, “…As soon as she saw the costume [for Scourge], she said, ‘We’re not doing this.’”

Lucasfilm revealed that the Scourge is a huge, hulking monster who wears a spiked cage over his head.  Unlike the fan-favorite Chewbacca, Scourge poses a major threat to the heroes of Willow’s story.  With Suotamo’s experience as an actor utilizing heavy prosthetics and costuming, the Scourge should prove to be the stuff of nightmares.

Willow is now streaming on Disney+.
