Ubisoft has had it rough lately. Most recently, there was a rumor of a massive hack. This hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there was definitely something going on at the end of the year at Ubisoft with Rainbow Six Siege. They’ve had a lackluster year of stock and game sales performance. Star Wars: Outlaws and Skull & Bones both underperformed in sales and reviews. All of this with game cancellations and layoffs have left Ubisoft in a precarious place.

That doesn’t seem to be hampering the development of the followup to one of their most successful game franchises: The Division.

Ubisoft spoke with Insider Gaming recently about The Division 3, and Julian Gerighty, Executive Producer for the game seems to be optimistic.

Gerighty told Insider Gaming, “The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret; it’s been announced. It’s shaping up to be a monster. Within these walls at Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I think will have as big an impact as Division 1.”

While The Division 3 hasn’t officially been confirmed by Ubisoft (this all but eliminates the need for that), it’s a sign of life for the troubled publisher. The Division and it’s successor The Division 2 were widely popular, despite the sequel seemingly shuttered until it was revived by a group of developers (not companies, literal people). After the cancellation of The Division: Heartland, which was supposed to be a free-to-play successor that moved from the East Coast of the US to the Midwest, Division fans were looking for any sign of life.

If Gerighty’s statement is supported by a solid product, it could be just what Ubisoft needs to climb out of the gutter.
