Announced in 2019, Max Original Series Dune: The Sisterhood will now continue production after a hiatus early in 2022, owing to the important cast and crew leaving the project. Adapting the novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the story is set 10,000 years before the events that took place during Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel Dune. That original novel was adapted as a film in 2021 by Denis Villeneuve, with its second part arriving on November 5, 2023. Dune: The Sisterhood will arrive after the release of that second film, likely at the end of 2024.

Following two sisters of the Harkonnen family, the sisters will “combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.” Valya Harkonnen will be portrayed by Emily Watson, known from Chernobyl. Tula Harkonnen was set to be portrayed by Shirley Henderson before she left the project in February. Olivia Williams, known from The Crown, has now picked up the role. Other characters appearing include Empress Natalya, who was originally set to be portrayed by Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) before a scheduling conflict had her depart the role. Jodhi May (The Witcher) will now portray the character. Emperor Javicco Corrino will be portrayed by Mark Strong (Shazam!).

Johan Renck (Chernobyl) was originally the director assigned to the project but left around the same time as Henderson. Anna Foerster (Lou) has been announced as the new director for the series. Diane Ademu-John serves as creator, writer, and executive producer, with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner and executive producer. Kevin J. Anderson is co-producer, with Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers on behalf of the Frank Herbert estate.
