Michael Giacchino Speculates On Returning To Score 'The Batman: Part II'

When the film score signal shines in the sky, you know who to call! It’s officially been confirmed that award-winning film composer Michael Giacchino will be returning to provide the score for The Batman: Part II!

Giacchino was asked about his potential return during the red carpet premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day this past Monday, stating that he believes he would return for the highly anticipated sequel. Matt Reeves confirmed Giacchino’s return on Twitter just yesterday. The Batman: Part II will mark Giacchino’s 6th collaboration with Matt Reeves, tying with Brad Bird for the most amount of collaborations he has done with a single director. They began their partnership in 2008, when Giacchino provided an end credits suite for Reeves’ acclaimed found footage horror film Cloverfield. Their first full-on collaboration came with Let Me In in 2010, which was followed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. Giacchino’s score for The Batman earned him a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Score. Since 2022, The Batman has been considered not only one of Giacchino’s best scores, but be one of the greatest film scores of the 2020s.

While we have to wait until 2028 to hear what new themes Giacchino will write for the vigilante of Gotham City and his accompanying rogues gallery, he has a busy year ahead of him. His score for Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be available on all music platforms this Friday. He is also set to score David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street and two new films from frequent collaborators; Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun and Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn. Giacchino is also set to be amongst the 9 film composers scoring Tony Gilroy’s upcoming drama Behemoth!, starring Pedro Pascal.
