Netflix debuted a trailer for their upcoming monster flick, Frankenstein by Guillermo Del Toro. The trailer opens on an icy landscape and then switches perspectives to Dr. Victor Frankenstein narrating his scientific experiment. The trailer then stitches together several different scenes, including of a body set to become the monster, a woman, and the doctor climbing up a lightning rod while the narration continues. The trailer ends with the tagline “Only Monsters Play God” and a shot of the monster screaming Victor’s name.
Oscar Isaac plays the role of Victor Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi will portray the monster he creates. Mia Goth plays Elizabeth, Christoph Waltz plays Harlander, and Ralph Ineson plays Professor Krempe. Joining the cast are Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Covery, and Charles Dance. With the nature of the Frankenstein story, many people have speculated that this will be a horror movie. Del Toro clarified that it wasn’t. He explained, “Somebody asked me the other day, does it have any really scary scenes? For the first time, I considered that. It’s an emotional story for me. It’s as personal as anything. I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son…I’m not doing a horror movie – ever.” Del Toro’s Frankenstein drops on Netflix this November. Check out the full trailer below.
