With the end of an era comes the beginning of a new one. At the shareholder’s meeting this Wednesday, Bob Iger officially stepped down as CEO of Disney, with Josh D’Amaro taking over. Serving more as an introduction to D’Amaro rather than a farewell to Iger, the new CEO has already laid out several of his plans for the company. On Disney+, D’Amaro has stated that the service, “will continue to evolve beyond a traditional streaming service to become the digital centerpiece of our company: a portal that connects our stories, experiences, games, films and more in entirely new ways.”

He continued by stating that the company is “working quickly to bring Disney+ and Hulu into a unified experience later this year. [It will] drive even more value for subscribers and for our business. When you add ESPN to the mix, it becomes a grand slam for consumers.” Earlier in the day, D’Amaro had stated where his priorities lay, “great storytelling and creative excellence will remain our North Star.” He also urged the division to act as “One Disney”, citing Toy Story as “no better example.” D’Amaro also announced the name of Disney’s next cruise ship, the Disney Believe. Further details about the new regime are sure to be forthcoming.
