Richard Garfield’s popular board game, King of Tokyo, is set to get a kaiju twist with a version based on Godzilla. Adding other famous Japanese movie monsters into the mix, King of Tokyo: Godzilla will see players battle to take control over Tokyo as one of Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Hedorah, Rodan, Mothra, or Mechagodzilla.

Designed for two to six players, King of Tokyo games last for roughly 30 minutes, using dice that have many effects such as gaining victory points, energy, healing damage or attacking rivals. The game ends when one person accumulates 20 victory points. This Godzilla version introduces event cards that can bring in rule changes. The visuals of the game lean into the early Godzilla years, creating a retro feel to the game.

The board game will debut at the MEGA XP event in Spain on April 25, followed by the UK Games Expo on May 29. King of Tokyo: Godzilla will also make appearances at an event in Asia in June and the US event Gen Con in August. This board game is one more piece of a year that looks packed with Godzilla content. A year that includes a comic book set in 1954 Japan, and the theatrical release of Godzilla Minus Zero.
