The Office is back! Sort of… The series has steadily maintained its popularity with the rise of streaming, leading to numerous podcasts and calls for a reunion. While a reunion is still not in the cards, on Thursday, Peacock released the first trailer for the official spinoff of the American version of The Office. This show may not follow the people person’s paper people, but fans can look forward to one character’s return.
The Paper takes place in the same world as The Office. With that documentary crew on the search for a new subject, they land on The Toledo Truth Teller, “a dying Midwestern newspaper,” that has recently hired a new Editor In Chief, Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), to reinvigorate the paper. In doing so, he hires a crew of volunteer writers to shake things up at the company to bring a fresh perspective. These volunteers have largely never written, with one’s only experience being writing a paper in junior high and another only ever tweeting. He’ll have to juggle these new journalists as well as existing staff to bring this paper back to life.

As for the staff, one particular character stands out. Oscar Nuñez returns as Oscar Martinez, and he is livid to be a part of another documentary. He tells the staff he will make his scenes unusable and refuses to agree to any of it. He won’t be the only one returning as Greg Daniels (The Office and Parks and Rec) has also co-created this series, and Ricky Gervais, creator of The Office (U.K.), will return as executive producer. The Paper will start streaming exclusively on Peacock on September 4th, 2025.
