‘Phineas And Ferb’ Panel Highlights From NYCC 2025

Phineas and Ferb main characters

On Sunday at New York Comic Con, Disney’s Phineas and Ferb creators, Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, took the stage along with Olivia Olson, who voices Vanessa Doofenshmirtz and is a staff writer, and Vincent Martella, who voices Phineas. The panel, which was filled to the max, centered around the music of the Phineas and Ferb show from its beginnings to the current season. Fans were also treated to a special sneak peek at a new episode of the new season that airs Saturday, October 18, on Disney Channel.

Throughout the panel, Dan and Swampy discussed inspirations for having songs as part of the show and how having a song helps to really cement the show in the viewer’s mind. Many times, you might not remember the episode, but you sure as heck are going to remember “Squirrels in my Pants” and sing it randomly. Swampy recounted a time that he was at a skating rink and ended up singing one of the songs with a girl there who had no idea that he had written the song and was just happy that he knew it, too. They also discussed how strange and cool it was that their songs show up playing in the background of places like Disneyland.

They discussed how the songs are so instrumental to Phineas and Ferb, and yet sometimes they are the silliest of songs that just don’t make any sense whatsoever, or they start not making any sense and then eventually turn into something. They also discussed how it is a technique they use frequently because it helps to tell a story since two main characters don’t speak or have limited communication skills (i.e., Perry the Platypus and Ferb).

They discussed how, when they brought Vincent on as Phineas, they had no idea if he could sing, and were quite thankful when he could carry a tune. Vincent revealed that he does have a tiny bit of a role with the music (and will be doing the voice of Agent W., who is a whale), but mostly enjoys singing whatever Dan and Swampy work on.

The panel also focused on Olivia and how she ended up in the writer’s room to help write the songs, and how inspirational and influential she has been throughout the show. Olivia also joked that, because of being in the writer’s room, she can now wheedle her way into having Vanessa on screen more.

Dan and Swampy teased some of the new songs we will hear in this new season, “Hit That Thing With A Stick” and “Kick That Ball With A Kick”, along with talking about the process. In the case of these two songs? Well, they pulled a Weird Al and parodied their own songs. And fans were treated to quite a long sneak peek of the new season with much hilarity and edge-of-the-seat excitement in an episode titled “Bend It Like Doof”. This episode will air this Saturday, but the next batch of episodes will come out in January of 2026.

At the end of the panel, they did a Q&A and gave out prizes to some of the best question-askers and Phineas and Ferb cosplayers (there were two Ducky Momo’s!). It was a really fun time being in a room of fans when the theme song started playing and the entire room started singing the lyrics at the top of their voices. The new episodes can’t get released fast enough!
