Photos And Premiere Date For Season Two Of 'The Wheel Of Time' Released

Season one of The Wheel of Time had relatively decent success, with mild reviews, and it left off on a wildly open ending with plenty of potential for a strong season two. Now, that long-awaited follow-up to season one of The Wheel of Time finally has a release date, and we have some newly released photos to go along with it.

Entertainment Weekly released a series of photos of season two that shed some light on what’s in store for the upcoming season. The article talks about how Rand is in hiding to protect those he loves, shown in a still of him wearing a hooded cloak, Moiraine is shown to have returned to her home city of Cairhien after apparently being cut off from the One Power. That’s a major deviation from the book that will be interesting to see developed.

That’s not the only deviation that seems to be a part of season two. In one of the images, we can see Loial walking behind what looks to be the Empress, or at least someone of a high hierarchical rank among the Seanchan, walking alongside Ishamael. While the invasion of the Seanchan is on par with the source, what Loial is doing there, as well as Ishamael, is a mystery that we’ll have to learn by watching. In the book, Loial accompanies the boys on the Great Hunt, and there is no mention of Ishamael having interaction with the Seanchan.

Other images show Egwene and Nynaeve wearing white, indicating that they are undergoing their training at the White Tower as Aes Sedai. A few other stills show Dónal Finn, who has filled in to play Mat after Barney Harris’ departure, and Lan atop his horse. Another interesting still shows Perrin alongside new addition Aviendha, played by Ayoola Smart. Aviendha is an Aiel, a secretive people from the eastern Aiel Waste, known for being deadly warriors and commonly seen with red hair.

There seems to be a mix of accuracy with the books and deviations, which is understandable given that the source material is massive, with the series averaging more than 800 pages per book. The characters are divided and experiencing their own journeys, and with the noticeable deviations playing out, it’ll be interesting to see them do so when the season premiers on September 1.
