It all started with a lamp. From the premiere of a short film in 1986, animation was turned on its head, with the use of computers by traditional artists. At the time, artists did not realize that computers were “merely a different tool in the artist's kit, but instead perceived it as a type of automation that might endanger their jobs.” According to Edwin Catmull, “The release of our Luxo Jr....reinforced this opinion turnaround within the professional community.” The release gave audiences one of the most recognizable brand associations of recent memory. Given Luxo Jr’s status in popularity next to the Pixar Star Ball, it was only a matter of time before the two would collaborate with another brand.

According to IGN, the LEGO brand’s partnering with Pixar to create a Luxo Jr. and Pixar Ball set might be “perhaps the most iconic yet.” The Luxo Jr. lamp and its little ball friend are officially up for pre-order on Amazon for $70 and will appear on physical shelves June 1 of this year. The set has been designed “specifically for adults” with 613 pieces to create their childhood memories. For the Pixar-loving adult, each of the pieces has hidden Easter eggs from notable Disney/Pixar movies such as Up, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Toy Story, and Finding Nemo. This new addition has given the Lamp and Ball set an edge, making its locked-in pre-order price quite a steal. Weather fans want the set price on Amazon or going to the LEGO store to purchase the new Luxo Jr. and Ball set, and a free gift for Insiders, Pixar and LEGO enthusiasts will have their own piece of Academy Award-nominated piece of history within reach.
