Eighteen years after last gracing our screens, the Gaang is finally back in action, as the first trailer for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender has finally been released, giving longtime fans of the series their first official look at the highly anticipated animated film and revealing that the movie’s release date has been moved from this Fall to this Summer.
The first production from Nickelodeon’s Avatar Studios, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, is a project that’s faced more than its fair share of setbacks and disappointments in its path to release. First announced in 2021, the film was initially slated to release in theaters in October 2025. However, this would be pushed back to January 2026, and again to October 2026. Earlier this year, fans were disappointed to learn that the movie’s theatrical release had been cancelled and would instead be released on Paramount+.
However, fans were in for a massive shock when Paramount was hacked this past April, and the movie was leaked in its entirety on social media, sparking outrage among some fans eagerly awaiting the film’s release and many of the artists involved in its production. While Paramount has worked to scrub copies of the film from the internet and a suspect was detained in the weeks following the leak, the incident certainly stirred up a lot of confusion and concern for the future of The Last Airbender’s animated projects.

Whether or not the leaks influenced Paramount’s decisions regarding the film, the trailer was immediately met with praise from fans, with many still holding out hope for a theatrical run in the future.
Directed by Lauren Montgomery (Voltron: Legendary Defender), starring Eric Nam and Dave Bautista, and animated by Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra) and Flying Bark (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), the official synopsis for the movie reads:
Based on the animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, this new story in the Avatar universe sees Aang learn of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is set to premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24th and will stream on Paramount Plus on July 25th.
