Rubén Blades, Richard Gadd, And More Join Bad Bunny In 'Porto Rico'

Emmy winners, breakout stars, and music legends are coming your way! The newest additions to the cast of Residente’s highly anticipated historical epic Porto Rico have been revealed! The cast, led by Grammy-winning superstar Bad Bunny, will also consist of Richard Gadd, Rubén Blades, Daniel Brühl, Rhenzy Feliz, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Alberto Guerra, Marcel Ruiz, Arian Cartaya, Óscar Jaenada, Carmen Machi, and Luis Tosar. Edward Norton and Viggo Mortensen also star, though previously announced cast member Javier Bardem is no longer involved.

A Latin music icon in his own right, Rubén Blades is a prolific performer, best known for his acclaimed salsa music and his role as Daniel Salazar in Fear the Walking Dead. Richard Gadd is best known for creating, writing, and starring in Baby Reindeer, which earned him Primetime Emmy Awards for producing, writing, and acting. Daniel Brühl is best known for his roles as Fredrick Zoller in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, Niki Lauda in Ron Howard’s Rush, and Baron Zemo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rhenzy Feliz is best known for his roles as Alex Wilder in Marvel’s Runaways, Camilo Madrigal in Encanto, and Victor Aguilar in The Penguin. Alberto Guerra is best known for his roles in Narcos: Mexico and Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty!. Marcel Ruiz is best known for his as Alex Alvarez in the Netflix reboot of One Day At a Time. Ariana Cartaya is best known for playing Rich Santos in the hit HBO series It: Welcome to Derry. Óscar Jaenada, Carmen Machi, and Luis Tosar are all prominent Spanish character actors.

Porto Rico is the highly anticipated directorial debut of René Pérez Joglar aka. acclaimed Puerto Rican rapper and activist Residente. The film centers on José Maldonado Román, a real life Puerto Rican revolutionary who fought against colonialism throughout his lifetime. In addition to directing, Residente will co-write the screenplay alongside Academy Award winning writer Alexander Dinelaris. Acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu will serve as executive producer. Porto Rico will serve as Bad Bunny’s first leading acting role following his supporting roles in Bullet Train, Happy Gilmore 2, and Caught Stealing. The film is currently shooting in the Dominican Republic due to lack of support from the Puerto Rican government and tax issues prevented Residente from shooting it in Puerto Rico proper.
