'Warhammer' Reveals Its Autumn Releases

With the season’s turn, comes another wave of product releases. Pumpkin flavoring is back in style, every type of flannel and soft knitted sweater appearing, and Games Workshop has revealed a host of miniatures to be purchased by customers of their many different verticals.

The biggest show-stopper announcement from the livestream on September, Friday the 18th, has to be the new Khazalite Holds. Previously accidentally revealed by Games Workshop when a section of their online shop became active too early, the full reveal of the new model range for the Age of Sigmar game system introduces an impressive array of stout, and not so stout, warriors. Marching to defend and reclaim the lands of the Duardin (AoS’s term for fantasy dwarves), the flexible range includes several new characters supported by infantry and war machines.

Another AoS model is a new leader for the Seaphon faction, reptilian beings who seek to preserve the plans of the mysterious Old Ones. The new model, one of the smaller reptilian beings on a pterodactyl-like creature, is beautiful and helps complete the ongoing update cycle to the rules and lore for the existing armies as a new Seraphon codex is dropping alongside the reptile-riding reptile.

In other fantasy news, The Old World is getting new undead soldiers in the form of updated skeleton infantry and chariot models for the Tomb Kings faction, while the fantasy sports game system Blood Bowl is getting a new team in the Night Goblins! There were a few other smaller announcements, but there was one final show-stopper to delight viewers.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the presentation was the return of the Legion of the Damned to the game in the form of a Kill Team unit positioned opposite a force of powerful Orks. Both sets of models will come to Warhammer 40,000 proper in the future, like all Kill Team releases, but this release is still a shock. The Legion of the Damned are one of the oldest mysteries of the Warhammer galaxy, flame-wreathed Space Marines with bone elements to their menacing black armor, and who only appear at sites of dire need, before vanishing with often limited contact with those they have saved. Models for this mysterious group were last seen in the 5th Edition of the game, and the new models are a true blast from the past, faithfully replicating those past products to a new scale and standard of the modern game.

While it is uncertain what order any of these models may release in, we can be sure that fans should be ready for a fruitful fall season in the world of Warhammer miniatures.
