Prime Video is returning to Middle-Earth this fall. The billion-dollar project, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, is returning for a third season. The series focuses on the Second Age of Tolkien’s work and takes place long before The Lord of the Rings. While the first two seasons happened in quick succession, this new season will have a timeskip, which is justified as the Second Age spans thousands of years. The official synopsis reads, “Jumping forward several years from the events of Season Two, Season Three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war, bind all peoples to his will – at at last rule Middle-Earth.”

Instead of a trailer, the studio released an image of a side profile of Sauron (Charlie Vickers) wearing Morgoth’s crown in a forge. While details are still scarce at this point, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay announced a couple new cast members. Jamie Campbell Bower, Stranger Things' Henry/Vecna, will reportedly play a “handsome high-born knight, and Eddie Marsan, of Supacell fame, will play a character with a brother and a character accent. The Rings of Power Season Three will premiere on Prime Video on November 11 2026.
