'SNL' Season 52 Premiere Set To Be Earliest Since 2012

Live from New York, it’s a new season of television’s greatest sketch comedy show! The premiere date for the highly anticipated 52nd season of Saturday Night Live has been revealed!
The long-running series will have its earliest premiere date since season 38, which premiered on September 18th 2012. For context, season 38 was the last season to feature Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen, and was the first for Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Tim Robinson. Saturday Night Live is coming off a successful 51st season, which itself came off of the show’s milestone 50th season. Season 51 featured a litany of first time hosts including Grammy winning superstars Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter, Golden Globe nominee Glen Powell, Stranger Things alum Finn Wolfhard, and Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo. The season also saw the return of acclaimed hosts such as former cast member Amy Poehler, acting legend Jack Black, and Academy Award nominees Ariana Grande, Ryan Gosling, and Matt Damon. Ariana Grande’s episode was the most watched of the season, obtaining over 5.40 million viewers. Alexander Skarsgård hosted the show’s milestone 1000th episode while Connor Storrie earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting the succeeding episode.

Season 51 was notable for the increased roles of cast members Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline, who despite remaining featured players, saw more screentime and memorable sketch appearances. The season also saw the debut of Ben Marshall, who was previously part of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy, who frequently created digital shorts for the program starting with season 47 in 2021. Season 51 was also the last season to feature both Bowen Yang (who departed after Grande’s episode) and Chloe Fineman, whose departure was announced on July 16th. More SNL cast member departures and additions are expected to be made in the coming weeks, as will the announcements of season 52’s first batch of hosts and musical guests. Rumors have circulated that season 52 will have air dates on October 3rd, 10th, 31st, November 7th, 14th, December 5th, 12, and 19th.
