Good news Sonic fans! Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has just wrapped filming. James Marsden recently revealed this in an interview with The Playlist promoting Knox Goes Away.

“We just wrapped, actually.” Marsden stated, “We were near the Deadpool stages up there in Pinewood.”

Marsden also took a moment to reflect on being part of a massive franchise and working with Jim Carey, saying:

“I think franchises…that’s kind of come, you don’t really see that often happen much anymore, so I feel really proud of what we’ve created and the response from the fans and everything. We just had to get the animation right in that first movie, but great family all positive. Jim’s like having a ball. He’s in his inspiration zone…and he comes to the set with…sheet music for the day, really calculated, prepared, so it’s a joy to watch him have a good time, really enjoying it again…Very lucky to be a part of it, and I think fans are going to be excited about all the new characters.”

While this is presumably just referring to the live-action parts of the film, the voice-over may be in a similar state. Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic in the film, posted a picture of him in the booth getting ready to record for Sonic on his X feed last month.

There is no word on whether Shadow is the lone new character from the games coming to the silver screen or if others will be joining him, and we still have no clue who will be voicing the “edgy hedgie.” Still, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to speed into theaters on December 20th of this year.
