At long last, the first narrative expansion to the Mandoverse is here! Yet its scope and scale suggest a slow start we sincerely hope picks up in the months to follow.

The Mandalorian and Grogu: Danger in the Dark is a one-shot kid’s comic releasing from Papercutz, an imprint of Mad Cave Studios, on July 22, 2026. Written by Delilah S. Dawson, an author well-regarded in the Star Wars community for excellent novels like Rise of the Red Blade and others, the plot follows a hidden danger lurking on the surface of Nevarro which Din Djarin and Grogu must stop. The comic covers revealed so far also show The Mandalorian’s Anzellans (also appearing in the major motion picture) as likely to play some role as well. The threat, meanwhile, might be an agitated horde of the same black-furret weasel or meerkat-like creatures previously seen in Nevarro’s sewers in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

The comic will be drawn by the team of layout artist Mario del Pennino and penciler/inker Arianna Florean, while several alternative covers will be provided by the likes of Juni Ba, Ramon Rosanas, Brent Schoonover, and possibly others.

We at CultureSlate, and likely many other fans, hope to see more material like this over the coming months and into 2027. The Mandoverse deserves expansion and more storytelling, and hopefully this comic finds success, or suggests a loosening of what have so far been very harsh restrictions.
