Tony Award 2026 Nominations Announced With Some Surprises

The Tony Award nominations are out, and there are a few surprises. Daniel Radcliffe, best known for playing Harry Potter and then playing anything that would separate him for the role, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Every Brilliant Thing. The Lost Boys, Schmigadoon!, Titaníque, and Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) were nominated for Best Musical while Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Becky Shaw, Every Brilliant Thing, Fallen Angels, and Oedipus were nominated for Best Revival of a Play.
In a surprise to the Broadway community, the revival of Proof, led by stars Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri, along with Broadway star Kara Young, didn’t receive a single nomination. The original run earned six nominations and received three awards. A newer addition to the Broadway Stage Will Harrison earned a nomination for his captivating performance of a man convicted of manslaughter in Punch. Despite lukewarm reviews, Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show earned nine nominations overall, surpassed by only The Lost Boys, Schmigadoon!, and Ragtime. The 79th Tony Awards are scheduled on July 7, 2026 at Radio City Music Hall with Pink hosting. Check out the full list of nominees below.
