Fans could be in for a shocking character death in The Mandalorian and Grogu, at least, that’s what the film’s newest teaser hints. A new teaser warns that Din Djarin’s “greatest mission could be his last.” Colonel Ward explains the threat of another war from the Empire, and tells him that his mission is “something you may not come back from.” Jonny Coyne’s character says, “I have collected the most deadly creatures from across the galaxy. The Mandalorian will die.” Presumably, he says these lines to the Hutt Twins. The promo also confirms that Mando is well aware that he won’t always be around to protect Grogu. Earlier promos included Din saying the line, “I won’t always be around to protect him”, but this time, he seems to be addressing Grogu directly. Maybe he’s preparing Grogu for the inevitable because of the risky mission Colonel Ward assigned him.
The trailer ends with someone saying, “There comes a time where we all have to say goodbye,” as Colonel Ward tells Din, “Get out of there, Mando.” Could this really be the end of Din Djarin? That would be a stunning, unexpected twist in the tale, since this is his movie debut. He also just adopted Grogu at the end of The Mandalorian Season 3, so it would be pretty anticlimactic to kill off Grogu’s only family so quickly. The movie is also being marketed to kids and families, and it may not be the best idea to kill off Din Djarin in front of an audience full of excited kids. That might not be the best first Star Wars movie experience for the little ones. This promo video is an attempt to raise the hype, and general audiences might fall for it and watch to see what happens to Mando. It is highly unlikely that Djarin will die in this movie, which promises to be a fun adventure for the father- son duo. Regardless, his mortality and his hopes that Grogu will be able to take care of himself when he’s gone will be themes that feature heavily in the film. The Mandalorian and Grogu will release in theaters on May 22.
