Looks like Kara Zor-El is changing course. It’s officially been confirmed that Grammy-nominated film composer Tom Holkenborg (also known as Junkie XL) will now provide the score for the upcoming DCU film Supergirl. It was reported back in December that Emmy-winning composer Ramin Djawadi would provide the score. However, due to currently unknown reasons, Djawadi is no longer involved.
A former student of Hans Zimmer, Holkenborg is no stranger to comic book movies, as he provided additional cues for Man of Steel. Holkenborg would go on to compose music for other comic book movies, including 300: Rise of an Empire, Deadpool, Alita: Battle Angel, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. He also co-scored The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Zimmer. Other prominent scores in Holkenborg’s filmography include the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films, Godzilla vs. Kong and its sequel, A New Empire, Army of the Dead, Rebel Moon, and Mortal Engines. Perhaps Holkenborg’s most well-known and beloved works are his scores for Mad Max: Fury Road and its spin-off prequel, Furiosa.
Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella), Supergirl is set to star House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock as the titular heroine. She will be joined by Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as Lobo, Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) as Zor El, Emily Beechum (Into the Badlands) as Alura In-Ze, and newcomer Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll.
Supergirl flies into theaters on June 26th.
