Taika Waititi's New 'Star Wars' Movie Receives An Exciting Update

Taika Waititi, the Academy award-winning writer and director of Jojo Rabbit,  is known for his quirky and humorous filmmaking. Ever since it was announced in May 2020 that he will be making a Star Wars movie, there has been a lot of intrigue and anticipation for the unique perspective that he would bring to the Star Wars universe. It seems like the wait might finally be over and we might get to see a Taika Waititi Star Wars movie after all!

In May 2022, Kathleen Kennedy stated that the movie had a temporary release date of late 2023. However, at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, while Kennedy reassured fans that the movie will be made one day, no concrete updates were provided regarding the fate of the Taika Waititi-directed Star Wars movie.

More recently, Deadline revealed that Taika Waititi is still excited about his Star Wars movie and is committed to directing it next year. The article also mentioned the Thor: Love and Thunder director’s ongoing talks to direct an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2021 dystopian science fiction novel, Klara and the Sun for Sony’s 3000 Pictures.

While we don’t have a clue as to what Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie will be about, it definitely will be an unconventional take on the franchise and we do hope to see it soon. Taika Waititi’s upcoming film, Next Goal Wins, is a soccer comedy and is slated to release in November 2023.
