Since 2018, Star Wars has released a Halloween-related comic miniseries to the public each year. First there were the tales told with the backdrop of Vader’s Castle, then Jabba’s Rancor pit, next the Death Star, and finally, this year, we’re going somewhere new once again: Ryloth!
Written by Cavan Scott with illustrations from Soo Lee, Vincenzo Riccardi, and Robert Hack in Issues #1-3, respectively, Tales From The Nightlands is the newest entry in the horror line of Star Wars comics. Focusing on the terrifying entity known as the Nightlander that emerges from the Twi’lek afterlife on certain nights, the three comics will see this being tangling with three generations of heroes. First are Obi-Wan and a young Anakin Skywalker who accidentally summon the Nightlander when trying to say a final goodbye to Qui-Gon Jinn, followed by Luke and Leia encountering the creature shortly after The Empire Strikes Back, and ending on Leia, Rey, and Finn facing this spectre shortly before The Rise of Skywalker.
At 30 pages each, the comic microseries is sure to keep spines tingling, with Cavan Scott expressing gratitude to be getting the chance to write yet more horror in the Star Wars galaxy. In his newsletter discussing the new announcement, he also revealed a surprising detail: Iain McCaig, legendary concept art for several past Star Wars projects, designed the Nightlander!
So, keep an eye on comic shelves this fall all you horror and Star Wars fans! Tales From The Nightlands looks like a great trio of stories to snag for your candy bags!
