Ryan Reynolds Is Apparently Exploring An X-Men And Deadpool Team-Up Movie

Deadpool’s big-name actor is apparently considering ways to tell a story involving a team-up between his fourth-wall-breaking breaking irreverent mercenary mutant and the wider X-Men universe.
While Reynolds was adamant about not doing a solo Deadpool film after the tremendous success of Deadpool & Wolverine, The Hollywood Reporter claims sources have informed them of Reynolds toying with this idea more recently. His exploration of this topic involves a film where Deadpool appears, perhaps only in a supporting role, with the bulk of the focus instead falling on a main cast of between three or four X-Men characters. Reynolds apparently believes that this focus on other characters, and not on Deadpool, would allow those X-Men characters “to be used in unexpected ways.” He is also still working on finishing a script for the comedy Boy Band for Paramount, which he has made a priority for 2025.
Such a film could factor in well into the future of the MCU. With the Fox-era X-Men set to appear prominently in Avengers: Doomsday and having versions of the characters appear in a few other recent projects, a project focused on Deadpool but with a cast of new characters would fit right in. As Kevin Feige has also noted that mutants are where the MCU will turn next, it may just be a matter of Reynolds finding the right characters, as well as behind-the-scenes talent to help him with this project.
Still, such a film is likely years away. For now, we’ll have to keep an eye on Reynolds’ workload and on how the X-Men continue to interact with the MCU.
