Chad Stahelski was Hollywood’s most sought after stunt coordinator before stepping behind the camera. He acted as second unit director on high profile films such as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Captain America: Civil War before finally getting a chance to helm a project himself in 2014.

Chad Stahelski has become synonymous with the John Wick franchise, directing every installment in addition to producing the last two. But now he has turned his eye to another big-ticket box office draw; in a recent interview he spoke of his love of the original Star Wars trilogy, and threw some big words the Mouse’s way: “I’d take a swing at that. I challenge you…see if Disney could survive me.”

Stahelski is currently in talks to develop a John Wick television series, so he may not have the space in his calendar, but it’s an interesting idea. Stahelski’s upcoming release Shibumi is a cult 1970s science fiction novel. The treatment of this adaption will show if he has what it takes for Star Wars. He also has a Samurai movie cued up for release (Black Samurai) and there’s plenty of inspiration from that part of the world in the Jedi lore. And of course, there’s the Highlander movie. So Stahelski may not just have the action sequences nailed; he could be a viable prospect, depending on the success of his next few projects.

Whatever happens with Stahelski in the future, the one thing that seems certain is the fate of John Wick. Stahelski confessed that the vigilante will not live happily ever after: “Keanu and I have been trying to kill off John Wick since the second one. […] There’s no happy ending.”
