George Lucas is opening the Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts in Southern LA, and the first step is giving back to the community. The museum is opening in an impoverished part of the city where a quarter of the population are below the poverty line., so the museum decided to give residents free access. Those in the 90037 zip code will have access to free annual passes. An early screening on September 13 will be open to these residents, business owners, civic leaders and LM37 pass holders. The museum’s CEO Tracy Bates explained the reason for the decision, “We wanted to make sure the neighbors that have been seeing the museum built from the ground up for the past eight years are the first ones inside.”

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts sits on three square miles in Exposition Park. A special Star Wars in Motion exhibit showcases vehicle designs, high-speed racers, flying vessels, props costumes, and illustrations from the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. In addition to the Star Wars exhibit, the museum includes Lucasfilm archives and works from Normal Rockwell, Jack Kirby, Robert Crumb, Frida Kahlo, and local star Judith Baca. Lucas provided the museum with over 12,000 objects from his personal collection. The museum features over 30 inaugural galleries and is open to the public on September 22.
