Tony Gilroy Had Good Reasons For Not Having Jyn Erso Appear In 'Andor' Season 2

There were many appearances by Star Wars characters first seen in Rogue One for Andor Season 2, from small roles to more prominent ones. One face some had expected we might catch a glimpse of was Jyn Erso, originally played by Felicity Jones, given previous statements that the final arc of the show would take us right to the threshold of Rogue One. With her large role in that film’s story, a tease or small indication of Jyn seemed like something the show could include.

But Tony Gilroy recently discussed this idea and claims he never considered it. Despite being asked about such a cameo, seemingly during the writing or production for Andor’s second season, he considered bringing Jyn into Episode 12 to be “lame” and that it would have been disrespectful. He instead chose to honor Rogue One by keeping her uninvolved.

Gilroy did open up and state he considered others for cameos. Most prominently was Galen Erso, but to a lesser extent, Tivic, the man Cassian meets at the very start of Rogue One. In the end, he turned away from both, because “...if people didn't absolutely have to be there, they shouldn’t.”

Gilroy also took a moment reflecting on the changes Andor Season 2 creates when someone revisits Rogue One, specifically the fan discourse around whether Jyn and Cassian had any sort of romantic connection. Laughing, Gilroy stated, “I mean, people who thought that was the love of his life are going to have to reorient their thinking.”
