The top-grossing film of 2022 will finally make its way to streaming just in time for Christmas. It’s been confirmed that Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to 1986’s Top Gun starring Tom Cruise, will be arriving on Paramount+ in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Italy, Latin America, and Austria on December 22. It will also arrive on Epix, which is becoming MGM+ in January, on the same day.

The film was initially released on Memorial Day weekend, May 27, starring the returning Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, now a test pilot Captain trying to prove he still has a place in the face of insubordination and defiance, brought in to train the current class against a new threat. It has grossed nearly $1.5 billion at the box office, leading the year’s box office and about $400 million ahead of second place.

The rest of the cast includes Val Kilmer reprising his role as now-Admiral Ted “Iceman” Kazansky, Miles Teller as Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s friend Nick “Goose” Bradshaw from the original, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, and Ed Harris. The 209-day window between theatrical release and streaming is far wider than most other films have these days, though the film clearly did have legs at the box office. Most Paramount films have been enjoying theatrical windows of about 45 days.

As for what else is coming to Paramount+ in December, the Snow Day remake and the next Yellowstone spinoff 1923 will premiere, new episodes of Big Nate arrive, and Gunsmoke gets reorganized for all 14 of its seasons under the name. In addition, the third season of the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series and the entire run of Everybody Loves Raymond will also be available.
