Announced as part of The Art Knight: Batman in Animation panel at New York Comic Con, an old three-part comic arc is getting adapted into a set of animated movies. Batman: Knightfall will release its first part in 2026.
As part of the announcement comes the logline, which reads, “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.” Considered one of the best arcs of the comics, it has never before been adapted since its release in 1993, though it has been referenced in many projects. Elements of Knightfall were included in The Dark Knight Rises with Christian Bale.
The Knightfall arc of the comics was released in three parts across 1993 and 1994, created by Dennis O’Neil, Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and Alan Grant. The first part of the film adaptation, titled Batman Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, will be directed by Jeff Wamester, written by Jeremy Adams, with Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau producing. Those two, along with Rick Morales, serve as supervising producers, with Sam Register and Michael Uslan as executive producers.
Part 1: Knightfall will release in 2026. Also set to release in 2026 is the video game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which is set to celebrate all eras of the Caped Crusader.
