Will A24 Target The 'Backrooms' Community?

The recent success of Backrooms, while something to be lauded, has also seen what appears to be the early rumblings of the film industry copyright machine.
While the IP’s original creator is unknown, coming from an anonymous user in 2019, its current face is Kane ‘Pixels’ Parsons, who was responsible for one of the most popular iterations of the original concept. They were substantially involved in the recent film, but it appears they might not be aware of everything distributor A24 sees in the future of the franchise.
At least one user online has stated that their Backrooms-inspired content has been targeted for removal on behalf of A24, despite the fact that their creations are not linked to the 2026 film, and instead draw from the wider fandom around the concept. This event happened on Redbubble, and while the details are fairly opaque at this time, it still seems very in line with what movie studios intend to pursue with internet culture-derived media. Similar concerns exist around the Skibidi Toilet phenomenan, after its creator made a deal within the film industry last year, and the creator has since refuted rumors that they have handed significant creative control over to Michael Bay’s production company.
Kane Parsons is listening, though, and replied to the user’s post, stating, “I’m looking into this. Should not be happening.” We’ll have to wait and see if the user will have their artwork restored, and if not, what this could mean for all future Backrooms fan creations in the future.
