Zelda And Link's Actors For The Live-Action 'Legend Of Zelda' Movie Have Been Revealed

It’s official, a Legend of Zelda film is in the works. Very few details are known this early into the project, but several exciting tidbits have been announced! Two of the main cast members have been revealed, as well as the current theatrical release date. On Nintendo’s official X account, Shigeru Miyamoto announced that Bo Bragason will be Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will take on the role of Link. 

The post reads, “This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.” The post continued with the release information, “The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience.”

Bragason has experience in video games, television, and film. The actress’s best-known roles include Rachel Winshaw in Three Girls, Clara Radley in The Radleys (2024), Roxy in Renegade Nell, Amy in The Jetty, Queen Gunhild in King and Conqueror, and Rocky in Creeped Out. On the video gaming side of things, she was the motion capture model for a young Luna in Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016).

Ainsworth has voice acting as well as in-person acting experience, projects ranging from television to film. His most well-known works include the voice of the titular character in Pinocchio (2022), young Alex Burgess in The Sandman, Miles Wingrave in The Haunting of bly Manor, Lester Smart in Everything’s Going to Be Great (2025), Mark Critch in Son of a Critch, and Jonah Fletcher in All Fun and Games (2023). He performed the song “I’ve Got No Strings” in Pinocchio (2022) as well.

A Zelda movie will join the likes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), Until Dawn (2025), the Sonic the Hedgehog films, A Minecraft Movie (2025), and more in the ever-growing genre of video game-based movies. Wes Ball is currently set to direct the film. Miyamoto and Avi Arad will be co-producers.
