Welcome to Indie Spotlight, the series dedicated to highlighting fantastic indie creations from talented creators! Today, we’re spotlighting the sci-fi short film My Girlfriend, Enid!

Enid is a notorious perfectionist who believes she will never be able to transition. Due to her personality, emotions, and just her general state of being, Enid thinks being her true self is an impossible dream. After meeting a trans man named Jamie, Enid realizes that she is capable of loving others. In order to achieve her desire to transition, Enid spends years trying to create the perfect clone of herself as a means to start over again. The downside? The clone is nothing like her. The clone, known simply as The Project, shows Enid a world of what will happen to her if she goes down the dark path.

My Girlfriend, Enid comes from the mind of Flynn Arvythis, an animation student from Sydney, Australia. The short aims to provide nuance, focus, and fun to trans representation in animation. In addition to drawing inspiration from the trans experience, My Girlfriend, Enid is heavily inspired by the art of drag and sci-fi B movies. In the current political climate where trans people’s livelihoods, art, and states of being are under constant attack, it’s great to see us stand up and make art that means something. We as a community look forward to seeing this great concept come to full life!

My Girlfriend, Enid is expected to be completed in 2027, with a wide public release in July 2028.
