'Invincible' Season 2 Episode 4 Review

Mark Invincible

The midseason finale of Invincible Season 2 has arrived, and it was a doozy. Mark had a reunion with his father, which did not go well. We got to see a bit more of his mother on her healing journey, after being abandoned by her husband, and Atom Eve is back being a superhero. It wouldn’t be a season finale without fans wishing they had more, and that's exactly what this episode did.

The biggest plot point of this episode was Mark and his father reuniting. The reunion of course did not go well. Mark discovered that his father moved on pretty fast, and already had another kid with one of the Thraxans. He is also still pretty upset, rightfully so, that his father killed thousands, and just up and left. We also got to see a flashback of what happened to Omni-Man after he left Earth. As he was traveling through space, he saw a ship in distress, so he helped them out. It turns out it was some natives to Thraxa, and thus they made him their leader. Mark and Omni-Man reluctantly team up to fight the Viltrimites that are hunting Omni-Man. Mark and his father are extremely tough, and we know they can put up a good fight, but these Viltrimites are much better. This entire fight sequence is awesome and looks like it came directly out of the comic book.

RELATED:

The animation is extremely fluid and was the best part of the episode. Mark utilizes his full power to defeat one of the Viltriimites until she stabs him. Another one attacks Omni-Man as well. As Mark is lying there, he is confronted by their leader and told to go back to Earth. It doesn’t seem that there are too many more Thraxans around after the Viltrimites slaughtered them, so it will be interesting to see how Mark is saved and how he gets home to Earth.

On the other end, we have Debbie on her healing journey. She visits Nolan’s grave and curses his name. She starts to go through her photo album until Art comes to visit. He tells her that she was always the tough one, and pretty much raised Mark on her own anyway. This seemed to really help her, as by the end of the episode, she seemed to be much more confident than we’ve seen her recently. Atom Eve is also back in action as a superhero. While in her apartment, someone with superpowers breaks in, and the two fight. The outcome of the fight eventually leads her to go back home, and hopefully make amends with her parents.

Mark Grayson definitely doesn’t have an easy life. His dad fought him, then left Earth, where they had to team up to fight his dad’s people, and he was pretty much left for dead, again. He thought he was helping the people of Thraxa when in reality it was a ploy by his father to help him. I have not read the comic, so those fans probably know what happens next, but after this midseason finale, I wish we got more. While we have to wait until 2024 to get the second part, hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to see what happens next.

Rating: 9/10
