Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii is the newest game in the Yakuza/Like A Dragon franchise and serves as a Goro Majima Gaiden game. You play as Majima, who has washed up on the shores of Hawaii and has amnesia. There, he is found by a child, Noah, and the two of them become friends. Eventually, they gain an entire crew and a pirate ship and set out on an adventure. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds, but still a fun time, just like any Yakuza game. It has all the same features as previous games, including substories. Let’s look at some of the best ones in the game.
5. The One

This substory is a culmination of a series of substories, which gives you a wild ending. When Majima is on the Goromaru, he approaches Masaru, who reveals how he wants to find love. That, of course, is never easy, so when Majima encounters a matchmaker named Machiko, he takes the opportunity to find the perfect lady. She gives you five potential matches, who you have to do various tasks for, and at the end, they agree to come to Majima’s party he throws for Masaru. It then gives you some live action scenes of Masaru actively striking out with every one of the ladies. After the live-action cutscene ends, you are back at Revolve Bar, where Majima talks to each of the ladies about the party. While it doesn’t end in love for any of them, each one of them joins your crew and your adventures on the Goromaru.

4. Man Of Bronze

Majima sure does meet some interesting characters during his adventure in Honolulu. At one point, he encounters a firebreather, who sure knows how to draw a crowd. However, the bronze “statue” nearby doesn’t. You have the option to give him some money when you first meet him, and have a chat where you learn his name is Bronson. Later, you meet him again and learn more about his artistic journey and how he ended up as a bronze statue. He gets harassed by some people, and Majima steps in to save the day. Bronson informs you that there is a festival coming up that he plans to perform at. Clyde, the firebreather and a former friend of Bronson, is also there. His routine doesn’t go as planned, and Bronson comes in and saves the day. The two performers make amends and become friends again. It’s a great substory, and in the end, you get Bronson as a crewmember.
3. Hironobu Shigeta, 65 Years Old

This substory follows the older businessman, Hironobu Shigeta. As crazy as it sounds, his childhood dream was to sail the high seas. Once he meets Majima, he asks to join the crew to live out his dream, and Majima begrudgingly accepts. Before they leave, his wife and son show up to try and dissuade him. They eventually give up and ask Majima to keep him safe. They leave for the high seas, and at first, Shigeta seems to love it, until a near-death experience scares him. It’s at that moment when he realizes how much his family means to him. He departs the ship, and Majima’s crew goes back home to his wife and son. While it means losing a crew member, it’s great to see this character realize what is really important to him.
2. Goro’s Heart

Did I mention that Noah has a pet tiger? Because he does. The tiger just happens to share the name Goro with Majima, but he becomes a valuable member of the pirate crew. One of the sub-stories lets you even “talk” with the tiger. Majima meets a scientist working on a device that lets you communicate with animals, and He does just that —or so he thinks. You find out, after spending a lot of money on batteries for the device, that Goro's “talking” was just the scientist. After getting told off by Majima, he joins your crew.
1. If I Weren’t An Idol

This is one of the longer substories. While Majima is walking around Honolulu, he stumbles upon Gu-san, who is an idol fan. He recently won a chance to tour the city with his favorite idol and a bunch of other fans. Gu-san gets cold feet about the excursion and convinces Majima to accompany him on the tour. Unfortunately, it’s not everything it’s cracked up to be. Lunch consisted only of rice cakes, and the group had to race onto the bus to ensure the idol and her manager didn’t leave without them. Once Gu-san meets the idol, she turns out not to be as sweet as she seems. He learns a valuable lesson about self-worth. Once you complete the story, you are rewarded with five new crew members, which is always beneficial for your journey on the Gorormaru.
