NBCUniversal has just announced a live-action series based on The Fast and the Furious through Universal Television. In fact, they have announced four of them; Vin Diesel himself announced it at their presentation. Diesel and Sam Vincent will be executive producing at least one of them via One Race, with Mike Daniels writing the pilot. Other producers include Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty from Original Film, Chris Morgan and Jeff Kirschenbaum. Very little about the project is known at the moment, save for a planned Peacock release.
Vin Diesel discussed a bit about his place in the franchise, saying, “As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories, and for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.” He claims he was reluctant to sign on, citing his protectiveness over the F&F brand. He says Universal Studios chief Donna Langley being placed in charge of TV at NBCUniversal swayed his opinion, “That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space.”
