“God bless us, every one!” A new film version of A Christmas Carol is underway at Warner Bros., and Robert Eggers is attached to write and direct. Long time Eggers collaborator Willem Dafoe is being eyed for the role of Eneneezer Scrooge, which will certainly be a showcase for his acting abilities. Chris Columbus and Elenor Columbus will be producing for Maiden Voyage, alongside Eggers. This will be his first major project after Nosferatu, a remake of a classic German horror film based on Dracula; this is certainly a change of pace compared to the previous film, but it will be very interesting to see just what this new project has to offer.
Charles Dickens’ A Chrismas Carol is one of his more famous stories. The story is about Ebeneezer Scrooge, a bitter, greedy man who, through a visit from three ghosts, regains his faith in humanity and becomes more charitable. Credited with repopularizing the Christmas holiday, A Christmas Carol has been adapted countless times over the years. Everyone from Robert Zemeckis to the Muppets have tried their own take on this timeless story. Robert Eggers has big expectations going into his version of the story, but hopefully his project won’t make any critics declare, “Bah! Humbug!”
